Artist Bio/Description: Alyssa Jacey

Born in San Diego in 1981, Alyssa Jacey was raised in Rancho Santa Fe, California, a part of San Diego County. Her professional experiences in the arts began with dance lessons at the age of four, and progressed towards a specialization in hip hop. In high school she acted in school plays, and after graduation studied at Sonoma State University in Northern California where she was asked to choreograph and teach hip-hop as an undergraduate, in addition to doing voice-overs for television and radio commercials. Alyssa also modeled for high fashion magazines, websites and danced in Super Bowl Thirty Seven. After moving to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue her dance career, Alyssa also secured acting jobs as an extra in television sitcoms, a movie, and some music videos (one including Frankie J). She became interested in voice in late 2004 and started singing occasionally at karaoke bars where she was consistently encouraged by a steady stream of compliments. Still untrained as a singer, she decided to experiment with an EP recording at Group 8 Productions entitled "Alyssa Jacey," released in March of 2005. (click here to buy now) Submission of this EP opened the door for her performances at the San Diego County Fair during the summer of 2005. She then began professional training with world-renowned opera signer Daniel Hendrick. Alyssa quickly released her second CD entitled "Closed eyes . . . open Heart" in the latter part of 2005 (click here to buy now). That October she was given a guitar as a gift by world famous classical guitarist Pepe Romero. This encouraged Alyssa to teach herself to play, working hours a day until she was able to perform her first solo thirty-minute show one month later. Alyssa is now fully committed to her singing and songwriting and is pursuing the additional acquisition of sound guitar skills. She accompanies herself on guitar in all her live performances. Her hard work and determination paid off when after just 3 months of self-taught guitar, Alyssa was asked to entertain at such noteworthy venues as The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Brick by Brick and Canes in San Diego where she played many of her own songs as well as a few covers. As of August 12, 2006 Alyssa has performed 100 of her own shows; 30 before she played guitar and 70 after, all in the short course of 17 months...What an ambitious achievement! Alyssa’s earlier musical style leaned more towards pop and country with her first two recordings. After learning to play guitar and developing her songwriting and vocal skills, her current style relates more to that of pop and soul, which you can hear on her newest EP released in January of 2006 titled “The Soul” (click here to purchase now). As for her upcoming full length album "BitterSweet," (being released early 2007), she wants people to know it will still have that same pop-soul feel, but with a fresh, jazzy edge and raw truth. "It's VERY personal, this new album, and I can't wait to share the lyrics and melodies with the world. They're so true to who I am and the experiences I've had in the last couple years. If you don't think you know me yet, by those first cd's, just wait! I guarentee you'll know all about me by the time you finish listening to this new one, and maybe end up knowing more than you'd like!" The topics of her songs include social and world issues and personal relationships drawing heavily from her own experiences. Vocally, she has been compared to Jewel, Sarah Mclaughlin, Amy Lee (Evenescence), Alanis Morissette, Lee Ann Rimes, Shakira, Shania Twain, Tracy Chapman, Aretha Franklin, Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow, Joss Stone, Tori Amos and as 'the female version of Jack Johnson.' Musically, she has been influenced by Imogen Heap, Sarah McLaughlin, Jewel, Edwin Mccain, Natasha Beddingfield and Tracy Chapman.
