MAAT Music is named for an ancient goddess of order, justice, balance, and healing, reflecting Amy's passions for world cultures, social and political activism, and modern day spirituality. Daughter of two teachers and a lifelong pianist from Silver Spring, MD, Amy trained to be a concert pianist for ten years, then started writing her own music. After winning several vocal arts & music competitions, she chose a scholarship to Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service to broaden her knowledge of global affairs. Between classes, improv performances, and theatrical shows, Amy spent day and night creating and rehearsing music in the hauntingly beautiful acoustics of historic campus chapels. Graduating with a Lifetime Membership in the Mask & Bauble Dramatic Society, she performed at The Studio Theatre & other professional stages in Washington, DC - singing her original music only at full moon gatherings, small clubs, and underground house parties. However, as more talented DJs, producers, and record labels such as Holmes Ives (Perceptual, Bedrock), Doug Singer (Brothers' Brothers, NYC) and Aaron Hedges (District of Corruption, DC/Berlin) discovered her musical talents, she was encouraged to move to New York City to further her development.
Clarke has performed her original music solo - whether on a grand piano, her synth keyboard or both - at notable rooms throughout New York City including The Cutting Room, The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos, CBGB's 313 Gallery, Marion's, Rose Live Music, Mo Pitkins House of Satisfaction, Caffe Vivaldi, The Triad, The Duplex, P.S. 122, M Shanghai Den (Williamsburg residency), BAP (Bushwick Art Project), Hope Lounge, outdoor concerts, and in benefits for Theatres Against War, Planned Parenthood & Habitat for Humanity International. In Washington, DC, she has performed at the Studio Theatre, Catholic University, Georgetown University, The National Theatre, The Black Cat, The Red & The Black, & The White House. In Hollywood, CA she has performed at Karma Coffeehouse, The Derby & The Viper Room. Amy has also starred Off-Broadway and been featured and interviewed on television (NBC, NY Channel 32), Sirius Satellite Radio, and performed original music on The Lifetime Network & NY Cable TV. She has also experimented live with guest musicians, organized top-tier songwriter showcases in Williamsburg, Brooklyn & Manhattan and is developing an artistic networking initiative called Gaia Grove to benefit local communities and the environment. Amy currently lives in Los Angeles, CA, where she continues to compose, create, perform, produce, grow her fan base, and tour.
