4,5,& 6 String Basses Dennis "a 2 bass s.o.b" Driscoll Dennis was born and raised in the small town of Virginia, Minnesota . His earliest influences were artists that his oldest brother covered in his band. The Vanguards , back in 1962. The Fenderman, The Ventures, Conway Twitty,Gene Pitney, Buddy Holly ,and Chuck Berry. Dennis takes pride in having his influences change with the times. He never got bogged down in one era. His other influences were: The Beatles,Spencer Davis Group, The Kinks, Elvis Costello, John Hiatt , Squeeze, Nick Lowe, Eric Burton Joe Jackson, Mitch Ryder, Marshall Crenshaw, Dave Edmonds and oh so many more! Some of the obscure artist he's enjoyed are: The Producers, Fingerptintz, Any Trouble, The Act, Split Endz, Paul Carrack Dennis joined the misicians union back in 1965 when oly 12 years old. At 15 his band, "The Small Society" entered a battle of the band competition held at the Duluth Arena Auditorium with 32 other bands. Judges were flown in from radio stations in major cities including Chicago , Minneapolis, New York and more. His band was fortunate enough to take top honors that night. The grand prize was a recording session at Dove Studios in Minneapolis. Don't look for them, they no longer exist . Other doors were opened because of the small fame they experienced from this. Together for only 13mos., due to Uncle Sam tugging at some members, they opened for such greats as: Eric Burton and the Animals and 3x's for Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs(wooly bully, and little red riding hood.) Dennis has the philosophy that it is a musician's responsibility to educate the crowd. That is to say open up their doors and ears to new musicthat they might have otherwise oberlooked. This must be done in bits and pieces so that people hear enough of what they are familiar with to stay. A good balance is 80%what they already know and 20% new. Before long people will be asking the band what song that is and who does it . This benefits the music industry tremendously. Together we are Black Beans and Rice
