Channing Cope Formed in 2002, this three-piece band has wasted no time in developing it's unique sound that combines influences such as Mogwai, Don Caballero, The Shipping News, Shellac, and Boards of Canada. Bassist-vocalist Ali Deniz Ozkan, guitarist Kenny Schulte, and drummer Chris Conner have pooled their talents, influences, and desire to create music that is bending people's ears in their native San Diego and in cities across the country. The bands debut effort, the "Leaving the Ramp EP" was recorded by Rafter Roberts in late August 02 in San Diego California. This record has received critical acclaim and has created quite a buzz in the local rock community. The bands sophomore effort "Sugar in our Blood" was released on July 31st 2004. Also recorded by Rafter Roberts, this record demonstrates Channing Cope's ability combine unique textures and structures while maintaining a solid depth of emotion. "Sugar in our Blood" was nominated at the San Diego Music Awards 2004 for the best alternative album. Several songs from Leaving the Ramp have been frequently played on various west coast radio stations including KSDT UCSD, FM94.9 SD, KPBS SD and KEXP 90.3Seattle. Along with playing very regularly in San Diego and Southern California, Channing Cope has toured the U.S. west coast from L.A. to Seattle twice and has plans for more touring in the near future. San Diego bands that Channing Cope has played with include Sleeping People, Ilya, Via Satellite, Goodbye Blue Monday, The Residuals, Waterline Drift, Bunky, lowcloudcover, The Dropscience, Comfortable For You, and Scarlet Symphony.
