Deadline Friday is a San Diego based rock band drawing from the influences of old school rock and roll, blues, funk, jazz, and jam. Since its inception in 2001, Deadline Friday has performed in front of numerous national recording artists including The Dave Matthews Band, Tim Reynolds, Gov't Mule, Counting Crows, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe to name a few. The band has also played at such well known festivals in and around the San Diego area including Baja Bash, Pacific Beach Block Party, Oceanfest, and the Ocean Beach Street Fair. In addition to this, Deadline Friday continues to play at clubs in Southern California and Arizona, constantly increasing its ever growing fanbase with energetic, spontaneous live shows that display the talent and cohesiveness of its members. Impressive three-part vocal harmonies provide the glue to a timeless yet progressive sound that audience members cannot ignore.
The beginnings of Deadline Friday go back to the late 1990s at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where Jim Diez and Mike Spurgat met while both studying music. Their eventual partnership led to a move to San Diego after graduation in the summer of 2000 to start what would become Deadline Friday. Drummer Bill Coomes, percussionist Claudio Gutierrez, and bassist Earl Schreyer would soon join the band. Their first full length album, Wear Yourself Worn, features the many versatile styles of the band and showcases their honest songwriting ability and creativity and hints at the energy brought to every live performance. Deadline Friday's desire to take the music to the people has already led them all over California and the southwest and with the release of Wear Yourself Worn, the band plans on expanding those boundaries limitlessly.
