DEEP ROOTED IS...
Originally from San Diego, MR.BRADY started off breaking in the mid-80's. Since the first time he heard Hip Hop, he's been hooked. Mr. Brady started experimenting with rhymes around 1988.
It wasn't until 1990-91 when he started taking it serious and began going to the lab and laying tracks down. He started off putting tracks down on 4 tracks. By 1993-94, Mr. Brady started putting out tapes and selling them in the streets independently. By 1994, he was featured on his first vinyl and was well accepted by the true Hip Hop world.
By 1996, he had an album out and two vinyl singles. His music led him to Vancouver, Canada where he met up with Swollen Members and was signed to Battle Axe Records in 1998-1999. He was then featured on six or more compilations, and released two albums with Battle Axe that were released Worldwide.
He has worked with such artists as Swollen Members, Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Moka Only, LMNO, OHNO, and more. He has done multiple Tours and Shows from the U.S. through all of Canada. Opening for such acts as Slum Village, KRS-ONE, The Liks, Wu-Tang, The Vans Warp Tour, and more.
Now years later, he has met up with JOHAZ to form the Group DEEP ROOTED, bringing about a soulful vibe for the whole world to feel. With a bigger picture in mind, they also hooked up with conscious street poet Sha Dula to form the label, OPEN MYNDZ ENTERTAINMENT.
Born in San Diego, JOHAZ first began rhyming in elementary school at local talent shows and Boys & Girls Clubs. Over the years, this hungry MC sharpened his lyrical prowess thru the open mic and battle circuts which included MTV Jams and Source sound lab respectively.
Johaz states, "I don't really consider myself a battle MC, but in Hip Hop in order to touch the mic at certain spots, you gotta battle cats for respect". Those battles lead to him opening up for some of the biggest names in Hip Hop such as, WU-Tang Clan, Planet Asia, Talib Kweli and the Vanz Warp Tour.
He became bored and frustrated with the battle scene which lead up to him joining forces with Underground giant, Mr. Brady, and forming the soul collective DEEP ROOTED under the OPEN MYNDZ ENTERTAINMENT label. Which also includes street scholar Sha Dula aka "Sha Tim ALLAH".
BREA My name is Brea. I'm a native San Diegan who's had music in my blood since birth. My singer songwriter father and gospel singing grandmother, is where my natural talent comes from, my strength and purserverance comes from my mother. I have always been interested in the arts. By the age of eight, I was performing plays, some of which were lead roles at San Diegos' Gaslamp Quarter Theatre. Into my mid teens, I began print and runway modeling. When I wasn't doing that I was, and still am doing background and stand-in work for numerous TV shows. HBO's Arliss, NYPD Blue, The Invisible Man, Point Pleasant, and Veronica Mars are just to name a few, thats how I became a member of SAG (Screen Actors Guild). It wasn't until I was twenty that I started pursuing a career in music. I mostly did studio work ,writing and singing hooks for different groups. This is how I began performing live as well. The groups included hip hop act, Construktive R.U.K.U.S, Z-Bonics,hard rocks Media Lab,Turtle Fuzz, and San Diego's music award winning Deep Rooted, which I'm currently a member of. I did a number of gigs with Dj Sachamo from the Illfonix show on Jazz 88.3 as well. I have opened up for acts such as Common, Poncho Sanchez, Kurtis Blow, Black Sheep, KRS-ONE and many more. My influences are Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey,Otis Redding, Lauryn Hill, Prince and Gwen Stafani. There's no particular type of music I like more than the other,I just like "good music" and I try to portray that with my style. I write all my own material, and try to stay away from corny cliched lyrics. I try to write about things "all people" can relate to, and about things going on in my own life. Currently, I am continuing to making new music as the vocalist for the DeepRooted team ,under Open Myndz Ent. Album one " A New Beginning, and the Deep Rooted album two "A Second Coming",Sha Dulas "Don Dallas" and my solo album coming soon titled "Just Brea". ...
