Divided by Zero
Artist Bio/Description: Divided by Zero
Divided by Zero is an original band from San Diego that fuses elements of melodic hard rock, punk, and reggae to create a highly original sound that combines metal's aggressiveness with classic hooks and melodies. Divided by Zero originally began as Ghoulspoon, a band that mixed hard rock with live hip-hop and creepy reggae, usually in the same song. The live shows included elaborate stage props and often featured cover songs by Bob Marley, Pixies, Motley Crue, Bad Brains, Stevie Wonder, The Cars, Slayer, and Devo. These eclectic influences earned the band a diverse and loyal following throughout Southern California. Over the years, the band has played hundreds of shows with many rising acts such as 311, Korn, Deftones, Incubus, Foo Fighters, Sugar Ray, Sublime, Kottonmouth Kings, Kid Rock, P.O.D., Zebrahead, Coal Chamber, (HED)pe, and No Doubt.
Without the benefit of a manager, agent, or major label, the band independently sold tens of thousands of demos, 7-inches, and CD's including 1994's "To Serve Man", 1996's "Medication", and 1999's "Fever", which became the #1 selling album in San Diego and was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2000 San Diego Music Awards. In addition to having songs on the soundtracks to many surf/skate/snow films and countless compilation albums, the band's music was also featured on Jim Rome's nationally syndicated sports talk show, "The Jungle", and on the soundtrack for the video games Twisted Metal 4 and TJ Lavin's Ultimate BMX. In 2000, they were chosen out of all the local San Diego bands to open up for KIOZ Rock 105.3's "When Bands Attack" which featured The Cult, Foo Fighters, Deftones, Incubus, and Taproot.
After being named Best Hard Rock/Metal Band at the 2001 San Diego Music Awards, Ghoulspoon went through a lineup change and was reborn as Divided By Zero. The band released the 4-song "Separation Ep" in Summer 2003, and the disc was quickly nominated as Best Hard Rock Album at the 2003 San Diego Music Awards. With a renewed sense of purpose and an album's worth of material ready to record, Divided by Zero is splitting its time between touring the Southwest and completing a full-length album.
