Artist Bio/Description: Impel
Impel: "to urge or drive forward; to impart motion"
From usa4real.com
"Impel finds their uplifting spirit in the city of lost angels. This is an amazing band with a powerful ambient style of rock that sends those Coldplay like chills of inspiration down your spine in a Perfect Circle sort of way. Their music is simply a shining light through layers of darkness that pulls the soul into imagining so much better things. We look forward to hearing more from Impel; They’re a major label away from being an overnight success."
[UPDATED 04-11-07]
As humans we often second guess ourselves on the decisions that we make and the career paths we choose. For Impel, that questioning has never ceased to exist. The members of Impel range from producers to recording engineers to session musicians to songwriters; amalgamating into a band whose style bleeds ambition and exudes a drive that simply cannot be denied.
Once singer in the band Floorbound (www.floorbound.com) and member of “Far From You”, Erik Ron decided to pursue a solo career writing, recording, producing, and performing his own music. In mid 2005, Erik searched for a band to complete his sound which brought him to the door of Steve Poon. Steve, no stranger to the stage, took the bay area music scene by storm with Shafter (www.myspace.com/shafter), My Former Self (www.myspace.com/myformerself) and many other projects across musical genres. Sharing his love of rock, but deriving many of his influences from Jazz, Blues, Funk, and R&B, Steve brings an eclectic, soulful, and groove filled musicianship to the band. Obviously, no band is complete without its backbone. In February 2006, Aaron Cutting joined Impel, which was apparent when instantly connecting with Erik and Steve both musically and personally. A naturally gifted musician, Aaron brought syncopated sebaceous grooves, incomparable technique, and a great feel/musicality to the band.
Impel comes together to bring something that’s not quite hard rock, not quite emo, and not quite r&b, but something infusing pieces of each genre together that strike an original and positive message that is relatable to everyday life. We are Impel.
