Maybe Tonite
Artist Bio/Description: Maybe Tonite
"Never dreamed of being a King, or even the President. Just wanted to sing my
rock n roll,'cause that's what happiness meant."
This line from Maybe Tonite's "Dream In My Pocket" sums up the band's core
philosophy. Maybe Tonite is comprised of Lead Vocalist/Lyricist Michael Aguilar
and Guitarist/Vocalist Raymond Chavez.
Having formed in the fall of 1990, in Rowland Heights, California, Maybe Tonite
has entertained audiences all over the country, and has released 4 independent
CDs of it's very personal compositions. The music of Maybe Tonite is deeply
rooted in the reality of the human experience.
As Roger Varian, President of Artist Integrity Music records, and friend of David
Crosby said after attending a Maybe Tonite performance, "Cros would really be
proud of you guys!"
With lyrics based on the pallete of colors called life experience, and their use of
melodic harmonies, and sweet, simple, classic acoustic guitar work Maybe Tonite
has touched people across all age groups.
"We want people to feel something when they hear our music.", says MT's
Michael Aguilar. "It's important because that's what music means to us." "There
are just those songs that reach you and wrap around your heart, or make you
angry, or happy and when we cause someone to have that kind of an "emotional
jump start" with one of our songs, that's the ultimate high, man!"
With musical influences that range from Crosby, Stills and Nash to the mighty Led
Zeppelin, Maybe Tonite began playing with a single musical goal, to reach out to
"regular" people with their songs. "You know we've had songs on the radio over
the years. One of them, "Some Things You Just Can't Change", Uncle Joe
Benson played on KLOS in Los Angeles a few years back, but we don't write
songs for the radio. We write them for ourselves, and for the people that listen to
us." says MT's Raymond Chavez.
Try to sum up Maybe Tonite's music in a sentence and you win a prize! They are
certainly not a "formula" duo. What style? What radio station best suits them?
Ask them and they laugh! "All of 'em!", says Michael with a chuckle. "No, really.
We write like other classic artists. Look at Zeppelin. Sometimes they were Rock.
Sometimes they were Blues, or Country or Metal. They just wrote what they felt,
and let someone else put them in a box, man, same with us." "We want people to
feel something when they hear our music." says Raymond."We want people to
leave with a memory. A feeling that there are others in the world that feel the
same emotions, as they do. Joy, sorrow, anger, loss, and all the rest of what make
us human!"
The only box I would suggest you put Maybe Tonite in, is in your CD collection
box. If you haven't had the joy of hearing Maybe Tonite, do yourself a favor and
pick up a disc. If you haven't had the privilege of hearing them LIVE catch a show
