Melochromatic
Artist Bio/Description: Melochromatic
Melochromatic is a five piece band out of Orange County with its hand on the pulse of avant-rock. Influenced by late greats like Radiohead, Beck, and the Flaming Lips, Steve Zank (primary song writer) creates music for those looking for something more approachable and meaningful in the alternative rock scene. Melochromatic excels in the difficult tasks of weaving technical musicianship with catchy melodies. Their lyrics, though honest and at times vulnerable, are powerful, contemporary, and significant enough that they demand to be heard.
Zank relies on long time collaborator and veteran vocalist Matt Preston (the band's front man) to deliver what the Orange County Register hails as "honey coated vocals." As an internation band, Melochromatic's rythm section is held down by percussionist Alan Nagashima, product of Saitama, Japan. Alan, mentored by drum legends Peter Erskine and Ralph Humphrey, is joined by multitalented visual artist and instrumentalist Tim "The Sloth" Bauer on bass guitar. The eclectic stylings of grace and madness are represented in the talents of Matt Wright and Zank on guitars. Wright, mentored by renowned guitarist Charlie Lair, follows in the stylings of Neal Schon (Journey), and Pete Townshend (The Who), while Zank continues in the tread of Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) and Matthew Bellamy (Muse).
Melochromatic recently finished recording its first EP record with Producer Kelly Winrich of the bands Bril and Delta Spirit. Featuring the songs "Pixie Dust", "Die and Take a Breath", and "Feel Safe", the 3 song EP has seen a growing number of podcasts and DJ turntables. Zero Gravity Radio excitedly refers to the single "Die and Take a Breath" as, "better than anything you are going to find on the radio today", while Redfizz.com critics call Pixie Dust "impressive, you get lost in this". Melochromatic is currently touring locally out of Los Angeles and Orange County, CA, and looking forward to recording their first full length album.
