In 1996, Miki was introduced to fellow Ox representative OHNO, who in turn produced and collaborated with her on the "Beyond the Limits" EP, her first official collection of recorded solo material.
After a short stint at UC Santa Barbara, Miki migrated to San Diego. Once she settled in, it wasn't long before she was immersed in the city's Hip Hop scene and community. She began writing for several music magazines; one such magazine entitled "Surface Dwellas", she co-created with Tre Juiz. This publication served to shed light on underground Hip Hop in San Diego and beyond. Miki then began promoting underground concerts as well. In 2000, Miki collaborated with her brother Declaime, providing a cameo appearance on the track "Uplift the Opposite" (under the pseudonym "Taboo da Sweetest"), on his acclaimed release "ansoitisaid". In 2002 Miki met fellow artist Blest, a founder of Sleeping Giant Music (SGM). This alliance led Miki to join the SGM family. In 2004, SGM released a compilation album featuring a roster of underground Hip Hop talent. The album, entitled "The Awakening", features Miki Vale's smooth, buttery vocal stylings on several stand-out tracks. 2006 saw the release of Miki’s collaboration with Oxnard’s most elusive crate-digger, Kankick, entitled “Yes Yes (Suite 3)”, a 7” single on Ramp Recordings.
Miki Vale has earned her stripes and due praises by opening for such notable artists as Slick Rick, Mos Def, Bahamadia, Loot Pack, Declaime, Too $hort, Living Legends, Souls of Mischief, The Roots, DJ Quik, Young MC, Medusa and more. Now, Miki is back in the lab, working hard on her solo debut album, set to be “UnValed” soon.
