Modern Day Moonshine
Artist Bio/Description: Modern Day Moonshine
For nearly three years, a duo of twenty-somethings have been building a name for themselves across the San Diego music scene. With diverse musical style and a grassroots work ethic, Modern Day Moonshine has become one of the most dynamic and sought after bands in San Diego.
Having grown up just hours apart in the heart of the rust belt, it wasn't until after a pair of cross country moves that Todd Goodnough and David Burrows met. Early 2004 saw both packing up their instruments and a couple bags of clothes before making the three thousand-plus mile trek across the U.S. David arrived in January from Cleveland, Ohio with his band, only to see it dissolve a mere three months later. Todd left Buffalo, NY in March, ending up in San Diego on what was originally planned as nothing more that a pit stop on the way to Northern Cal.
A sunny afternoon in July 2004 brought about a chance meeting at one of Todd's solo performances at a corner bar. A week later, both set up shop in a warehouse in the heart of San Diego and worked on a couple tracks together (one of which would turn into "Mama Said"). After only a couple of hours, the duo made their live debut at a gig that same evening.
After a year of steady bookings and a live EP under their belt, Modern Day Moonshine set out to record a full length album in the summer of 2005. Armed with little or no finances, Todd and David relied on their friends throughout the recording of what would become "19 in ‘67." Handling all producing, engineering and performing duties led to three weeks worth of tracking in a friends home studio. From there they enlisted the services (and ears) of longtime friend and engineer Ryan Isbell to mix the effort in Los Angeles. After months of anticipation, 19 in ‘67 saw its independent release on May 22, 2006.
After almost three years, over 200 gigs together, and over 1,000 copies of "19 in ‘67" sold, Modern Day Moonshine continue to evolve. Pre production has already begun on the sophomore effort, and the band continue to see a rapidly growing fan base and full calendar. For a band that prides itself on its live performances, nothing has been better than the opportunity to bring their music to the masses, and to continue to do so.
