Hailing from Southern California, Mod for Marq sprouts from the San Diego Indie Rock scene. Guitarist – and sole member Hernando Marquez attained an early appreciation for music with initial influences from his Latin heritage later including a natural interest ranging from Punk to Jazz. Among his musical endeavors a Green Day cover band exposed him to playing the guitar for the first time, a smooth transition from his role as vocalist. Hernando took to the playing naturally, and hasn’t put it down since. After taking a quick break to finish up his College degree in Graphic Design, Hernando returned to his music and ultimately moved to San Diego. Following his move, the Indie Rock scene unique to the area instantly inspired Mod for Marq. Where new influences like Saves The Day and Death Cab for Cutie subsequently triggered him to embrace a new direction. The slower progressions made sense to his “...It’s not how hard you play, it’s what your music says about you,” attitude toward his acoustic and melodic tracks. However, don’t label him just yet, with recent influences of Say Anything and The Spill Canvas, Mod for Marq offers different sounds for each anthem. Experimenting with elements of song, Mod for Marq undertakes the adventure of creating compelling textures along with alluring progressions that make anyone swoon. As Mod for Marq grows he looks forward to working alongside local artists and hopes to collaborate with other musicians to add depth to the music.
