Artist Bio/Description: Mother Jones
A dynamic six-piece, multi-genre jam band from Los Angeles, including former members of Radio I Ching and Freshly Baked, Mother Jones has assembled a powerhouse of some of the West Coast’s finest musicians and vocalists. Members of Mother Jones as well as the band itself have shared billing with some of Jam Rock’s best- including Dave Mathews, String Cheese Incident, The Radiators, Ivan Neville, Burning Spear, Merle Saunders, and Jazz Is Dead. With it’s arsenal of performers and songwriters Mother Jones has developed a unique and powerful sound that is all their own. This band delivers the complete package to fans and listeners, from stellar songwriting and powerful vocals to energetic grooves and flowing jams. Mother Jones has been busy performing extensively throughout California and neighboring states for the past several years. In 2006 they recorded their second album ‘UNION’, mastered at Capitol Records and recorded at Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood. Working with master engineers Evran Gocknar and Barry Conley, they created a rich, warm sound using all analog recording. Tracks from ‘UNION’ as well as their first album, ‘Life Is Illusion’ have received regular airplay on radio stations throughout the US and in Europe. With influences including everything from Rock and R&B, to Bluegrass and Country, to World Beat, their diverse originals and energy-driven performances have captured the attention of both Jam music fans and industry professionals throughout the world. Their music has been compared to that of The Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Allman Brothers, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Little Feat, Janis Joplin, and Eric Clapton. Along with receiving the LA Music Award’s Jam Band Artist of the Year, Mother Jones was also named for “Critic’s Choice” and “Track of the Week” awards from Garageband.com for several tracks from both ‘UNION’ and ‘Life Is Illusion’. They have been heard on Jam Rock programs such as David Gans’ “The Grateful Dead Hour” and Barry Smolin’s “The Music Never Stops” on KPFK in Los Angeles. Neil Young has featured two tracks from the Mother Jones album ‘UNION’ (“Needn’t Worry Now” and “No More Rain”) on his website’s page “Songs of the Times” for the past 6 months. The band has been written up in media publications including Relix Magazine, An Honest Tune Magazine, LA Music Connection Magazine, Jambase and BN Magazine. Mother Jones has also been featured in several live interviews at radio stations including Air America, and KPFK in Los Angeles.
