SixthDay
Artist Bio/Description: SixthDay
Almost six years has passed since the inception of SixthDay. In those six years the members of SixthDay had all dreamed of adding their musicianship to San Diego County where they had spent most of their lives. It all started when Rocco Torres moved to a North County community called Rancho Bernardo. The next door neighbor there introduced Rocco to the rest of the original band members Andy Campbell, Brian Gannon, and Nathan Brock. They began practicing at least three days a week and have not stopped since. In the beginning they struggled to function together and find a sound that contained a little of each of them. At one point another guitarist was added to fatten the sound, however, this turned out to be a bad idea at the time. So it was decided to keep the band to four pieces. Bassist Nathan Brock, after graduating high school, decided to go away to college and left SixthDay. John Allen was soon found to be his replacement, and SixthDays sound really started to take shape. John added a fresh tone to the rhythm section that blended very nicely with Brian Gannons guitar talent. Andy Campbell being a very progressive drummer and Rocco Torres on vocals gave SixthDay a unique and fresh sound. SixthDay then began to record its first album. Work on the album continued for close to four months, and SixthDay was eager for its release. Then in a most unfortunate turn of events Andy Campbell, at the age of 21, passed away on October 6, 2002. A very talented and loved person was tragically lost. This devastated the other members who were not only Andys band mates but also his best friends. Andys only wish was that the band not quit after he had gone. Keep the dream alive, and dont stop, Fortunately, Andy left a legacy behind in his music; ten raw drum track had already been recorded in the studio for SixthDays first album. So the rest of the band continued to work, using a burned CD of the recorded drum tracks pumped over a PA system to practice with. Almost two months passed before SixthDay had found its new drummer Loki. Loki very quickly adapted to SixthDays sound and style learning every beat a cymbal crash of the bands established songs. After only a month SixthDay played its first show on New Years Eve 2002. With challenges overcome and a dear friend lost, SixthDay continues to play for the dream and for themselves.
