It's been a hell of a ride the past couple of years. A band breaks up, another begins. It breaks up again. It gets back together, and ultimately changes. But while this never ending process might leave many with a taste of sour despair in their mouth, others move forward to fight the fight.
"I have so many great songs, I can't just let them go to waste. I feel like I have to do something," explains Daniel Wolf (guitar/keyboard/vocals), "I can't just stop writing songs."
But in a place where the people have been worn thin and where talent and greatness have become the unimpressive norm, it becomes difficult to stand out among the rest.
"I can honestly say that the music really is different. It might sound familiar at times, but it's pretty hard to define."
Combine the pop melodies of The Beatles, the spacey dynamics of Pink Floyd, the abnormal formality of The Flaming Lips, and the introspective personality of Radiohead and you might get some idea as to where the_sessions are coming from.
Using lyrics that are universally personal, they weave together a tapestry of music using strands of indie rock, pop melodies, and experimental layers that both carry you away and rock you out before letting you down gently.
"The songs all come together to tell a story that becomes visible if you really listen. But if you don't want the story, I think the songs are honest enough to stand on their own."
Since their beginning, the_sessions have wasted little time. Just weeks after its release, tracks off of the Slippery Fish EP were being played on Southern California's Indie 103.1
