For their efforts, the San Diego Union-Tribune named the Bigfellas as “Best Local Band In San Diego” as voted by its readers.
Musically, the band describes their sound “as if The Police actually had fun playing music, with goofy elements of Ben Folds, Steely Dan and Beck all rolling in.” The quartet (guitar, piano, bass and drums) hops and even invents genres such as “slacker pop”, “faux roots”, “funk-jazz-funk”, “golf rap” and “country cabaret.” Unlike like most allegedly funny bands, the Bigfellas “place a musical premium on melody”, whatever that means.
As self-confessed stage whores, the guys insist on playing as often as possible. Their focus is on having a good time onstage, making sure the audience does the same and also just seeing themselves apart from overly-serious, “shoegazing” “rock” “stars.”
The Bigfellas continue to play San Diego clubs, festivals and benefits in addition to recording and some limited touring.
