Started out of the ashes of a, dare I say it, cover band called Big Lummox who played songs no newer than 1974 Thee Corsairs sailed their ship into calm waters. Not ones to give up easy guitarist Andrew "Greaser" Snodgrass, bassist Rex Navarro and drummer McNaughton decided to press on. The search was on for a new singer and after a few auditions that didn't go so well the guys thought about packing things in when a new employee at Lou's came in and raised the sails. Scott came in with a guitar in one hand and a mic in the other and things were back on track. The guys started writing songs and playing show within a few months and all was good. After what seemed to be a great 6 months of playing McNaughton had enough and jumped ship leaving the band in a tough spot with shows already booked.
Across town was a punk band that had been together for about 10 years playing the same songs at each show and not really going anywhere. Every time they got together they would fight and one member of the band would quit the band only to come back at the next practice. Once the final straw was pulled, drummer Big Daddy Mascaras had no plans of continuing his musical career. Thee Corsairs in need of a drummer and hearing the somewhat good news of the break-up they called Big Daddy Mascaras and asked if he would reconsider his retirement to join the band. Big Daddy figured he would help out the band and get them through the shows they had booked and see what happened from there. At the end of the first show they played together everyone know what was going to happen from then on.
With the lineup complete once again things began to pick up steam. The guys played more and more shows with bigger and bigger bands around town. When October of 2002 rolled around it was time for the first ever recording of Thee Corsairs mix of 60's surf/garage and 80's punk. Shaking up in Big Daddy's living room the guys spent 5 hours to record 8 tracks. All songs were recorded in 1 or 2 takes each and were left for the most part raw and non-produced. A few knob turns here and there and you got the debut EP from San Diego's upcoming rock band.
After playing shows with such bands as Rocket From The Crypt, The Locust, the Burning Brides, Modey Lemon and the Richmond Sluts, Thee Corsairs have amassed a sound following. More shows are being lined up with bands such as Reverend Horton Heat, Creepy Creeps, The Stereotypes and of course Rocket From The Crypt. Thee Corsairs first West Coast Tour is also in the works for late this as well as another EP. 2003 is going to be a busy year for Thee Corsairs but they are all up for the task. And mark well me words mateys, Thee Corsairs tell no tails.
