The New Division
Artist Bio/Description: The New Division
The New Division is an indie-pop/new wave band from Riverside, CA founded in 2005 by John Glenn Kunkel. Its main influences include New Order, Joy Division, and much of the new wave/post punk scene that is evident in the eighties. The name is derived from the combination of the band's two main influences. Its sound consists of catchy guitar, and bass riffs along with the complementary use of synthesizers.
John Kunkel began as the only member for the first two years of the band's development. The initial songwriting for The New Division was done through the concept of bringing back 80s sound, with a modern touch and feel. In the spring of 2007, The New Division was able to add three new members to its body. The first was Michael Janz, who initially assisted Kunkel in playing keys at acoustic shows in the University Apartments of California Baptist University. Shortly after, John Sachs joined the group to help out with percussion and drumming. After a while, the opportunity eventually came up to where The New Division had the chance to participate in a battle of the bands contest, hosted by CBU. The need for a second guitarist came into play, and Brock was finally added.
