Thicker Than Thieves
Artist Bio/Description: Thicker Than Thieves
When Thicker Than Thieves hits the stage their full-throttle performance always leaves the crowd demanding more. From San Diego, “…Cali-based six-piece Thicker Than Thieves pump out a sun-baked and surf-inspired mix of heavy, reggae-inflected bass lines and blazing horns fueled by punk-rock’s rebellious nature, oh, and mad herb,” wrote Bill Picture, staff writer, San Francisco Examiner. TTT plays a convergence of DUB, REGGAE, PUNK and HARD ROCK music that is fresh and original. Thicker Than Thieves has an unrivaled So Cal sound that is crafted by mixing several styles and incorporating brass. “I love Thicker Than Thieves. I think they’re a great band, completely high-energy, amazingly tight and the horn section is over the top. These guys really rock,” says Carol Bruno, co-founder and producer of Reggae on the River.
The 2004 Van’s Warped Tour and Reggae on the River veterans have been busy. Thicker Than Thieves released their four-song EP titled “Respect” featuring 2004 Grammy nominated Tippa Irie on the title track. They also kicked off their year long “Respect Tour 2004” with Long Beach Shortbus. Thicker Than Thieves ended their 2004 touring schedule in Hawaii with 10 days of island hopping. Maui Times Weekly wrote, “Thankfully, Thicker Than Thieves have plans to stick around for a few rockin’ reggae, ska punk shows in Hawaii before they head back to San Diego. That is, if we let them go back to San Diego-ha-ha! And believe me, once you see these guys live you’ll be hooked.”
Thicker Than Thieves has been on the bill with many well-known acts including Toots and the Maytals, Israel Vibration, Baby Cham, Ghetto Youth Crew, Steel Pulse, Ozomatli, Everlast, Bad Brains, Wailing Souls, Long Beach Shortbus, Pepper, Long Beach Dub All Stars, Eek-A-Mouse, Groundation, Buck-O-Nine, Capitol Eye, Bargain Music, D.I., Too Rude, Slightly Stoopid, Dubcat, Go Jimmy Go, Mower, Kingspade and other various Skunk and Suburban Noize recording artists.
Since Thicker Than Thieves establishment in 1999, touring and performing in the US has helped build their growing audience. In 2002, Thicker Than Thieves released their nine-song full-length debut CD, “Smuggler’s Run,” which continues to receive great reviews from both industry professionals and fans. Thicker Than Thieves were featured on two surf movie soundtracks; Salt Water Junkies, released summer 2002, and Neighborhood Watch, released summer 2003. In June 2003, SRH Records honored Thicker Than Thieves as “Underground Band of the Month.”
For this hard-working, charismatic band, TTT’s philosophy is simple; play positive music that makes people happy, play music that is inspiring for our youth and encourages them to do the same. But most importantly, “You’ve got to give respect to get respect.
